During a raid on a body-donation company in Arizona, FBI agents uncovered a gruesome scene including a refrigerator filled with penises, buckets of limbs, pools of blood, and a human head sewn onto another body in a “Frankenstein” manner.
The Biological Resource Center (BRC) in Phoenix, a for-profit body donation company, was raided as part of a nationwide criminal investigation. New court documents from a civil lawsuit against the BRC have revealed disturbing details of the investigation.
The former owner of BRC, Stephen Gore, pleaded guilty to illegal control of an enterprise in 2015 and received probation. Now facing a civil lawsuit, at least 33 plaintiffs are suing the BRC for obtaining their family members’ remains through deception and improper handling.
FBI agent Mark Cwynar witnessed unsettling scenes at the BRC, including bodies manipulated as a morbid joke, and a woman’s head sewn onto a male body and displayed like Frankenstein.
The court documents exposed a price list for body parts, with the BRC receiving donations from over 5,000 individuals and distributing 20,000 body parts to various facilities.
Agents discovered 10 tons of frozen human remains in the warehouse, leading to one agent retiring due to post-traumatic stress disorder.
The body-brokering industry in the US, particularly in Arizona, remains largely unregulated. Until 2017, companies didn’t even need a state license to operate.
