According to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 14, oceans are crucial for sustaining life on our planet. They are responsible for producing 50% of the oxygen we breathe, absorbing 25% of carbon dioxide emissions, and capturing 90% of the excess heat generated by these emissions. Oceans are essential in mitigating the impacts of climate change.
Despite their importance, oceans are facing significant threats from pollution, plastic waste, and increasing temperatures. Coral reefs, in particular, are experiencing rapid degradation, affecting marine biodiversity and coastal communities. As the United Arab Emirates continues to develop artificial islands and industries, it is imperative to consider the future of its oceans.
