Last December, on my birthday, I shamelessly re-shared all my friends’ birthday shoutouts on Instagram because I wanted everyone to know it was my special day. It was a very Sagittarius move, I must admit.
While reading the kind messages later that afternoon, I came across a DM from our lovely contributing writer Alex Ronan that caught my attention…
She noticed my lipsticks, I thought. She understands me.
At the age of 13, I applied my first layer of subtle eyeshadow and delved into the world of makeup. Since then, I’ve enjoyed experimenting with different beauty trends. While a winged liner was my go-to in my teenage years, I opted for an ombré peach and pink lid for prom. In college, I boldly dyed my hair purple (no regrets, to be honest). When I turned 23, I decided to try blonde highlights.
However, a bold lip is the look I always return to. The color lights up my face and adds elegance to any outfit. Every time I wear brick red, I feel alluring and ready for romance. For a sophisticated work look, I choose a cranberry hue. On sunny days, I opt for a vibrant coral to achieve a sun-kissed appearance.
A vibrant lip makes me feel alive, and I intend to wear one always, even when my hair is gray and my eyes are lined with laughter.
Curious, I asked two other women about the beauty looks that make them feel most like themselves. Here’s what they shared:
“My signature look is glowing skin with lots of blush and a glossy lip,” says beauty/culture writer Tembe Denton-Hurst. “It makes me feel beautiful and ethereal but still true to myself. Currently, my lip combo is Ami Cole lip liner and Merit sheer lipstick topped with Polite Society lip balm in Bumbleberry. For the cheeks, I’ve been enjoying red blush, particularly Beach Please from Tower28.”
“I inherited thick, coarse hair from my Chinese mother, which makes me feel wild and powerful!” says pastry chef and author Natasha Pickowicz. “I keep it long and wavy, parted down the middle, or piled into a massive top knot. Since it gets dry and frizzy, I cannot live without a tiny squeeze of Oribe Supershine Moisturizing Crème — it smells amazing and makes my hair silky.”
Now I’d love to know, what’s your signature beauty look? Is it a short crop, a rainbow manicure, or perhaps a signature scent? Please share all the details below…
P.S. Joanna’s splurge-worthy lipstick, and nine women on gray hair.
