Sheila Foster, renowned scholar of environmental and climate justice, has been named a fellow of the American College of Environmental Lawyers in recognition of her exceptional contributions to the field.

Foster, a visiting professor at Columbia Climate School and professor at Georgetown University, is known for her groundbreaking research on environmental justice, land-use policy, and the role of local governments in addressing climate change.

“Receiving this fellowship is a great honor, particularly among esteemed colleagues like Michael Gerrard and Michael Burger,” Foster shared with State of the Planet. “It highlights the importance of environmental law and justice in today’s world.”

The American College of Environmental Lawyers is a prestigious organization dedicated to advancing environmental law and ethical practice. Foster’s work in environmental justice, evident in her publications, has been instrumental in shaping the field.

Foster’s commitment to environmental justice dates back to the early days of the discipline. Through her research and publications, she has been a trailblazer in advocating for just and sustainable communities.

“I am thrilled to be part of an organization that values and promotes environmental justice,” Foster added.
