Even if you’re not a regular sports watcher, the excitement of the summer Olympics every four years is hard to resist. The Paris 2024 Summer Olympics are just around the corner, and you can use the buzz from the games to kickstart your fitness routine at home. Sports can offer fun and engaging ways to stay active and healthy, and the upcoming Olympic season may influence fitness trends.

Josh York, CPT, founder and CEO of GYMGUYZ, believes that several sports will play a significant role in shaping fitness trends leading up to the Paris Summer Olympics. He mentions that the popularity of these sports can inspire individuals to adopt new fitness routines. Additionally, with new sports like break dancing, climbing, and surfing added to the Olympic lineup, there are more opportunities to try something different and exciting.

Surfing, which made its Olympic debut in the 2020 Tokyo Games and will return in Paris 2024, provides a full-body workout that requires strong overall body and cardiovascular fitness. To incorporate surfing-inspired movements into your at-home workout, try the surfer pop-up and alternating forward lunge routines recommended by experts.

Break dancing, another new addition to the Olympic lineup, requires balance, timing, explosive movement, and significant arm strength. A break dancing-inspired routine involving lateral lunges and plank shoulder taps can help you build strength and agility while having fun.

Gymnastics tends to gain popularity around the Olympics due to the impressive routines performed by athletes. While you may not be doing handsprings at home, focusing on full-body strengthening and balance exercises can help you experience the benefits of this sport. Try bodyweight squats and plank holds to channel your inner gymnast.

Boxing, known for its cardiovascular benefits and full-body strengthening, is a great workout for improving endurance and overall fitness. Incorporate boxing moves like jabs, hooks, and uppercuts into your workout routine to elevate your heart rate and challenge your cardiovascular system.

As you prepare for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, consider incorporating elements of these sports into your at-home workouts to stay active, healthy, and motivated.
