Imagine this scenario: you’ve just finished brushing your teeth, only to be hit with a not-so-great smell when you check your breath in the mirror. Surprisingly, bad breath can also originate from your throat, not just your mouth. This condition, known as halitosis, can be caused by various factors, including what you eat or underlying health issues. Dr. Jason Abramowitz, an otolaryngologist, explains that bad breath from the throat can be a result of colds, infections, allergies, tonsil stones, or acid reflux. To address bad breath from your throat, you can try nasal saline rinses, staying hydrated, avoiding triggering foods, and maintaining good oral hygiene. In some cases, chronic bad breath can be linked to more serious conditions such as diabetes, head and neck cancers, or liver/kidney disease. If home remedies don’t improve your bad breath, it is advisable to seek help from your dentist or a specialist. Remember, prevention is key, so maintaining a healthy oral hygiene routine and addressing any underlying health issues promptly can help keep your breath fresh and clean.
