When it comes to cooking, the first thing I reach for is a splash of olive oil in the pan. Olive oil, with its smoke point of 400ºF, is a versatile ingredient that can kickstart the Maillard reaction for perfectly crispy and charred foods or dress up a simple vinaigrette. It has long been a staple in my kitchen, but according to Daniel Humm, the plant-based chef and culinary officer of Algae Cooking Club, a new contender may soon take its place—algae oil.

Algae oil, with its many benefits, is quickly gaining popularity in the culinary world. Compared to olive oil, algae oil offers a subtle flavor that enhances, rather than masks, the flavors of a dish. Its high smoke point of 535ºF allows for high-heat cooking without breaking down, making it perfect for grilling needs. This exceptional smoke point is due to the use of terrestrial microalgae in the production process, resulting in an oil that is 93 percent omega-9 monounsaturated fat, promoting cardiovascular health and overall well-being.

In addition to its culinary benefits, algae oil is more environmentally friendly than other oils, with production resulting in fewer carbon emissions. The thinner consistency of algae oil allows for easy emulsification with other ingredients, making it ideal for creating vinaigrettes. Algae Cooking Club emphasizes delivering a pure and stable oil for culinary needs, with a focus on quality and sustainability.

The process of making algae oil is similar to brewing beer or making wine, with microalgae being fermented and pressed to extract the oil. This process results in a high-quality oil that is good for cooking and good for your health. With the seal of approval from culinary legend Daniel Humm, Algae Cooking Club’s algae oil is a promising addition to any kitchen.

My experience with Algae Cooking Club’s algae oil was positive overall. The oil’s light color and mild flavor made it a versatile option for a variety of dishes. Its luxurious texture and high smoke point made it ideal for high-temperature cooking, while its ability to evenly coat the surface of a pan ensured even cooking. Overall, algae oil performed just as well as any other cooking oil I have used, with the added benefit of leaving no residual aftertaste.

In conclusion, algae oil is a high-quality, versatile cooking oil that offers numerous benefits for both chefs and home cooks. Its unique properties make it a valuable addition to any kitchen, providing a neutral flavor and luxurious texture that enhance a wide range of dishes. Algae Cooking Club’s commitment to quality and sustainability sets it apart as a leader in the culinary oil market.
