The Line, a 15-minute mega city being built in Saudi Arabia, is set to be the centerpiece of the Neom project. Reports from news agency Bloomberg reveal that The Line’s expectations have been adjusted, with the linear city now anticipated to house less than 300,000 people by 2030, rather than the initially projected 1.5 million.
Located in the Northwestern region of Saudi Arabia, near Eilat in Israel and Amman in Jordan, The Line aligns with Saudi Arabia’s shift towards a post-oil economy by investing in biofuels and sustainable development.
As the construction progresses, there have been concerns raised about sustainability and human rights violations, including the forced eviction of Bedouins and allegations of fatalities. Despite criticism, The Line aims to connect Red Sea coastal areas and enhance Saudi Arabia’s presence on the global travel map.
