If you’re a gardening enthusiast with limited space, this DIY reclaimed wood wall garden project is perfect for you. By using just a few used wood pallets, you can create a functional and beautiful vertical garden to enhance your outdoor space.

This step-by-step guide will help you through the process, regardless of your skill level. For a detailed video tutorial on creating your own reclaimed wood garden trellis, check out our YouTube channel.

The Tools You’ll Need

Although you can use the tools you have on hand, here are the tools we used to make our clip-on pallet wood vertical garden:

  • Crow Bar
  • Pound Hammer
  • Jigsaw
  • Claw Hammer
  • Jointer Sled
  • Table Saw
  • Sliding Compound Miter Saw
  • Brad Nailer
  • Angle Grinder
  • Drill
  • Impact Driver

Materials

For this project, you’ll need a wood pallet, which can often be found locally. Check Reddit and social media or contact a warehouse or pallet company for old pallets. You’ll also need:

  • Waterproof Wood Glue
  • 38mm 18 Gauge Brad Nails
  • 40 Grit Sanding Disc
  • Pair Of Steel Hooks
  • 4x 40mm Chipboard Screws

Allow approximately two hours to complete the project, depending on your skill level and available tools and materials.

Vertical Garden Specifications

The design of your vertical garden will depend on the type of pallet used. Get creative and plan a layout that suits your preferences. Measure the pallet strips according to your desired layout/pattern.

Step-by-Step Process

  1. Remove two narrow boards from the pallet with a crowbar and hammer.
  2. Extract nails with a claw hammer.
  3. Cut out half of the central board using a jigsaw.
  4. Straighten edges with a jointer sled and table saw.
  5. Cut boards to size using a fence and stop block on the miter saw.
  6. Attach strips to the pallet with wood glue and brad nails.
  7. Use an angle grinder to clean and smooth the wood.
  8. Attach hooks to the back of the garden using screws and a drill.
  9. Hang the vertical garden on a wall securely.
  10. Plant your preferred greenery in suitable pots.
  11. Let the wood age naturally without treatment.
  12. Water plants with a watering can for maintenance.

Enjoy the process of creating your pallet wood vertical garden and add a touch of nature to your outdoor space. Happy gardening!
