Your bathroom tiles may appear clean and sparkly after your regular cleaning routine, but there are several items in your bathroom that are likely teeming with germs due to neglect. “Typically, these items aren’t considered in a regular bathroom cleaning routine,” says Marla Mock, president of Molly Maid. We spoke to cleaning experts to identify the top offenders you should pay attention to:
- Your toothbrush: Replace every three to four months, and clean the handle often.
- Your loofah or body sponge: Replace every six to eight weeks, and microwave for quick cleaning weekly.
- The soap pump dispenser: Wipe down the outside regularly and wash before adding fresh soap.
- Your razor: Replace every five to seven shaves, and disinfect with rubbing alcohol.
- The soap dish: Clean weekly with hot, soapy water, and consider drainage holes.
- Hand and face towels: Wash every two to three days with hot water and dryer settings.
- Cloth bath mats: Wash weekly at high temperatures and replace every six months.
- The shower curtain liner: Replace every six to 12 months, and spritz with tea tree oil for disinfecting.
These recommendations will help you maintain a cleaner and healthier bathroom environment. Remember, keeping these items clean is just as important as cleaning the surfaces!
