Hey there friends! I’ve missed you all! Last time we chatted, I was seeking advice on transitioning from one kid to two. Well, since then, I’ve welcomed the newest member of our family, Emiliano, into the world. Early motherhood has been a rollercoaster of highs and lows, and here are four things that have surprised me along the way:
1. Good audiobooks and TV are essential during newborn days. Listening to Lindy West’s audiobook Shit, Actually and watching Survivor helped me stay awake during those late-night feeding sessions and brought me much-needed joy.
2. Viewing my postpartum body through the eyes of my future self changed my perspective. I realized that my body changes are a beautiful part of the journey, and I now have a newfound appreciation for my body.
3. Different doesn’t mean worse. Emiliano may not get the same one-on-one time as his sister, but our bond is just as strong. Spending time with him may look different, but he is loved and happy.
4. Everything takes forever with two under three. Embracing slow parenting and aiming for mediocrity has helped me stay sane and enjoy the present moment with my little ones.
