Summer is here, and that means it’s Spritz season! As we scroll through our social media feeds filled with pictures of people enjoying Aperol spritzes on Italian beaches, we can’t help but feel a little FOMO. But fear not, we can bring the spritz-making fun to our own homes.

While a boozy drink can get the party started, dealing with a hangover the next day is never fun. That’s why we’ve gathered some non-alcoholic “Aperol spritz” recipes from mixology experts that will transport you to your own paradise.

What’s in a traditional Aperol spritz?

According to Marcus Sakey, a traditional Aperol spritz includes sparkling wine, aperitivo like Aperol, and club soda, garnished with an orange slice. When combined, these ingredients create a fizzy, vibrant orange drink that’s citrusy and refreshing.

Aperol can be bitter on its own, but in a spritz, the bitterness is balanced by the bubbly and creates a light and refreshing summer drink.

But you don’t have to include alcohol to enjoy an Aperol spritz. We’re sharing three easy non-alcoholic recipes that are just as delicious.

3 easy non-alcoholic ‘Aperol spritz’ recipes

1. Orange kefir + grapefruit juice + lemon juice + orange slices

According to mixologist Kennedy Johnson, citrus-flavored kefir, fresh orange slices, and ice are key elements for a non-alcoholic Aperol spritz. Johnson’s recipe includes GT’s Orange Peach Mango Agua de Kefir, grapefruit juice, lemon juice, and orange slices.

Johnson’s recipe: 4 oz of GT’s Orange Peach Mango Agua de Kefir, 2 oz of grapefruit juice, 1 oz of lemon juice, served on ice and garnished with orange slices

2. Aperitif alternative + soda water

Sakey’s recipe features Ritual Aperitif Alternative and soda water for a satisfying non-alcoholic version. Ritual Zero Proof’s Aperitif Alternative has the bitterness of an Italian aperitivo and the sweetness of a French vermouth without the alcohol.

Sakey’s recipe: 1 1/2 oz of Ritual Aperitif Alternative, 2 1/2 oz of soda (and/or prosecco)

3. Capri Spritz + non-alcoholic bitters + orange slices

Founder of Mocktail Club Pauline Idogho recommends using Capri Spritz, non-alcoholic bitters, and a fresh orange slice for a delicious non-alcoholic Aperol spritz.

Idogho’s recipe: 4 oz of Capri Spritz, 3 dashes of non-alcoholic bitters, and a fresh orange slice

What’s the secret to making delicious mocktails?

Sakey suggests using fresh fruit and bitters to add a personal touch to mocktails and enhance their flavor. For a quick and easy option, try Free AF Apero Spritz, a ready-to-consume, non-alcoholic Aperol spritz in a can.
