The family of an 18-year-old high school graduate from Amplus Academy in Las Vegas is mourning the loss of their son after he suffered cardiac arrest in the school bathroom following gym class. This tragic event has shaken the entire community and left his loved ones in deep sorrow.
Tragedy Strikes: 18-Year-Old Student Passes Away After Gym Class
Jordan Brister, a promising 18-year-old student, had a heart attack in the changeroom after gym class on January 3rd. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he tragically passed away a few days later. His family, friends, and teachers are devastated by this sudden loss. Jordan had big dreams and was about to graduate high school and attend college. His passing has left a void that cannot be filled.
“He was witty and charming,” recalled his mother. “He wanted to join the military to become a pararescue jumper to save others. In the end, he saved others through the donation of his organs, so his dream was somewhat fulfilled. He was a wise, older brother who cared deeply for his siblings. Jordan was truly everything you could ask for and more. He had a heart of gold.”
The cause of Brister’s cardiac arrest is still under investigation, and it remains uncertain if it could have been prevented. The Amplus Academy community is mourning his loss and coming together to support each other during this difficult time.
Swift Actions Taken But Unable to Save Him
The school staff acted swiftly to attend to Jordan, who was also a talented tennis player. Despite their efforts and the use of CPR and an automated external defibrillator, they were unable to revive him. He was rushed to the hospital, where medical professionals also could not save him. It is suspected that an underlying heart condition may have been the cause of his sudden cardiac arrest.
“Words cannot express what the Brister family is going through, and there will never be enough answers as to why this happened,” shared a family friend. “He was an amazing kid who loved life to the fullest.”
Understanding Sudden Cardiac Death

It is often caused by an electrical malfunction in the heart muscle, leading to a loss of consciousness and breathing. This condition can result from undetected heart disease, lung injury, or structural abnormalities in the heart muscle. Sadly, many individuals do not survive sudden cardiac death due to these underlying conditions. This tragedy serves as a poignant reminder of the challenges in detecting and preventing such conditions.
