My friend just texted me a photo of her daughter walking into first grade and said, “She’s growing up, sobbbbb.” Oh my gosh, I remember those heart pangs! But fear not, parenthood doesn’t end after toddlerhood or elementary school. Your kids never stop needing you and it only gets more fun. Here are 10 things I’m LOVING about preteens and teens…
1. You’ll watch TV shows together that you actually enjoy! No more kids’ shows, now we’re binging Friends and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. What shows and movies do you like watching with older kids? Always love recommendations.
2. Texting with your child can be hilarious. Anton texted me “Night Ma” at midnight and Toby replied “k” to a heartfelt message.
3. They’ll finally carry stuff. After years of you carrying everything, your kids will start bringing in the groceries and pizza.
4. You can do “self care” together. My kids are into skincare and love going to Sephora with me.
5. They’ll start respecting others and employing important concepts like consent.
6. Your kids’ deep thinking will amaze you. From simple questions to deep conversations about politics and life.
7. Now they’re actually good at games and give you a run for your money.
8. They’ll even rub your feet and charge a dollar per minute!
9. Watching them grow up is heartwarming. Seeing them babysit or show empathy towards others is truly special.
10. No matter how old they get, they’ll always be your babies. xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo
How old are the kids in your life? Parents of preteens/teens, what would you add?
